Men's hardworking hands

I wanted to share my experience from this weekend at a 2 day show I attended in Garden Valley, Idaho. I started demonstrating to the public at shows I attend how my sugar body scrubs help with exfoliating and at the same time moisturize, I then apply my 60% Shea butter body butter to there hands they are amazed at the results. Well I had so many men this weekend with dry cracked hands come up to me and ask me what they could do to help with there hands, most of the men have jobs that they work in concrete, landscapers, general contractors, groundskeepers. So I love to educate people and show them the great results, so I did a hand scrub on them and finished it off with our body butter, the quote I was getting was "wow my hands don't hurt and they feel so soft" Made my day knowing I help someone. I emphasized to them it is very important to do this everyday and your hands won't hurt, crack and no more dryness. I found men just need a little educating on the right products to use. More and more men are more interested these days then before in taking better care of there skin.
Off to Park City, Utah for a 4th of July celebration and show

Have a safe and fun holiday!

Shea Butter the King Of Butters

Shea Butter also known as Butyrospermum parkii is extracted from the Karite nut that come from the Shea tree. The Shea trees grow in the Sahei belt of West Africa which includes countries like Ghana, Togo, Burkina Faso and Nigeria. The effects of She Butter is amazing, who should use Shea Butter? Everyone! Every household should have a jar of Shea Butter either among there beauty supplies for smooth better looking skin, or in the medicine cabinet for minor skin injuries around your house. Shea Butter penetrates deep into your skin and gives it back its elasticity. It will revitalize, soften and maintain moisture to your skin without greasiness. Shea Butter's high content of vitamin A, E,and F will provide your skin with all the essential elements it needs for a good skin balance. Use it for the treatment of dry and wrinkled skin, sunburns, scars, skin irritations. Shea Butter also soothes and heals skin after shaving or waxing. Shea Butter is the Skin's Best Friend! this is why we use 60% Shea Butter in our Body Butter. I wanted to Thank Shea Radiance www.shearadiance.com for all her help in my research on Shea Butter.
Have a great weekend

The Sun and your Skin

As spring and summer approach, soaking up the sun's rays is one of life's greatest pleasures. Not only does the warm, sunny day perk up our spirits, it provides us with the with the ideal setting to pursue a lot of activities, including outdoor sports, walks with your dog,(that's me!) gardening or just relaxing. The sunlight can also provide therapeutic and psychological benefits. Unfortunately spending too much time in the sun without adequate protection is harmful. Excessive exposure over the years which when I was growing up was the thing to do, lay in the sun rub baby oil over and bake! I 'm paying for that now as I found a spot on my cheek a couple years ago, it was froze once came back again, but this time if it does not go away they will take a bx of it, to see if it's fast growing if not then they will cut it out, well they will cut it out anyway lovely. People who work in the sun for years without sunscreen develop a tough leathery skin that make them look 15-20years older. After years of excessive exposure, the sun weakens the skin's elasticity, leaving the appearance of sagging cheeks and deeper than normal facial wrinkles. The other harmful effects on your skin, discoloration"liver spots" So that tells me sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen I know I'm at fault sometimes I forget to put it on, so I have came up with a solution, I keep a tube in my car, great idea!
Have a great week everyone

Spring Time

My favorite season, Spring Time, as I look out side today spring is a ways away, A lot of cold wind. I have decided on my labels which I have been fighting with ever since I started Plum Hill, they are my brand you have to do what makes you happy my daughter pointed that out to me, funny how that works. The new size Bath & Body is a little behind on being launched hopefully May 1st we'll get there just in time for all the trade shows coming up. Another surprise to my line I'm adding a nice moisturizing lip balm with SPF 15 and the name will be called Plum Hill Kisses.
I wanted to touch on Organic Coconut oil now that we use it in our Sugar Body Scrubs. Filipinos are well- known for their youthful appearance and soft, wrinkle-free skin, even though they live in a climate that exposes them to the suns rays year round. Since coconut oil is their main dietary oil, and is the main ingredient in their skin care products. Most commercial skin care products in the U.S. today are made from polyunsaturated oils which oxidize and turn rancid very quickly causing free radical damage in the skin. I am very excited about adding organic coconut oil to our Sugar Body Scrubs not only does it help the sugar and the other oils solidify but oh so moisturizing for your skin.
Have a great weekend!

Spa Pedicures & Daily Foot Care

I wanted to write this blog because I was a nail tech in California back in the late 80's boy am I revealing  my age!  I really enjoyed educating clients and helping them look beautiful and not to say I had a great time doing it, I made lasting friendships.  So here is a few little helpful hints.
The nail is made of hard protein called keratin. The nail helps protect the ends of the toes from a trauma. Your feet should be cleaned daily to reduce the development of odor and the risk of disease. Each day when you bath don't forget to wash carefully between your toes with antibacterial soap to remove bacteria and fungus that tends to thrive between your  toes, dry your feet and between your toes carefully with a towel, this prevents athlete's foot. Don't forget the moisturizer.
A pedicure can be a very relaxing and very therapeutic  service we all look forward  to I  know I do. When you go for your pedicure make sure they have sterilize there instruments before using them on you,  they need to use an antibacterial  solution, because bacteria lives on the surface for an extended period of time, if past on to the next client the results could be devastating.  Make sure they push back your cuticles, scrub your feet get all that dead skin off, massage your feet and legs and before applying polish they need to dry out the toe nail so your polish will last a least for 4 weeks.  Your feet and toes  will love you for it and you will feel so much better. So sit back and relax!

Long Hot Showers and Baths

If you're like me, especially in the winter you have to force yourself out of that hot steamy shower every morning. I could stay in there all day!  You might think that a steamy hot shower hydrates your skin, Wrong,  these hot showers actually strip the oils from your already dry skin. Our skin contains special proteins and fats that make up a protective barrier and locks in moisture to protect us from harsh enviroments such as furnaces, heating in buildings is sapping your skin of moisture. Using harsh soaps exacerbate the effect. Soap cleansers with alkaline can also dry out your skin.  Try using a mild body wash or mild soap particularly ones designed for sentive skin for those areas that require extra scubbing - like your face, under arms, and in the groin area.
To keep your skin moist, try a shorter shower with luke warm water or cooler shower and keep it to 10 mins.
Exfoliate in the shower with a oil based sugar scrub  every other day this removes dead skin cells and allows moisture to soak in better, and moisture, moisture, moisture, with a body oil after your shower or bath  while your body is still damp.  Hopefully you have a better understanding of hot showers, in door heating, in general the harsh enviroments and what they really do to our skin.
Take Care and have a Fantastic Weekend!

Effects of Kukui Nut Oil

I get a lot of questions asking what is kukui nut oil and why I use it in my products

So here you have it....

Kukui oil has been around for hundreds of years it's also Hawaii's state tree, The Hawaiians discovered it when the shells were removed from from the kukui nuts and the kernels lightly roasted clear oil could be pressed out. This is a  excellent penetrating oil that when smoothed on the skin it soothed and softened sunburns and irritations not to say it's also effective for many different skin conditions, providing moisture and nourishment to dry, mature as well as damaged skin.  Kukui oil contains vitamins A, C, and E providing anti-oxidants that help protect your skin. I have even used it for a before shampooing oil treatment for my hair.
Coming from a dry climate I have found this oil to be critical in all my products, with the exception of my body linen sprays. This is because I don't always have the time to re-apply moisturizing product throughout the day, so to having kukui oil in my products allows me to use my product once a day as opposed to 2 and 3 times a day. Even at the end of the day after washing my hands multiple times they are still soft and there is nothing better then soft, healthy skin.
So there you have it the story of why kukui oil is a staple ingredient in my products....
Until next time
